Bates Weston advises Elsym Installation on sale to RSK Group

Apr 14, 2025

The Corporate Finance team at Bates Weston have advised the shareholders of Burton based Elsym Installation, a water sector electrical expert, on the sale to RSK Group.

Elsym has grown from a small family business created in 2000 to become a key supplier of electrical contracting services in the specialist area of water treatment. The company, now with a team of over 20, also operates more widely in other industrial process and production areas including in the rail, food and drink, animal feed and pharmaceutical sectors. RSK is a £1.9bn turnover environmental engineering group comprising over 200 companies.

Recent projects for Elsym have included the following:

Hartshill Sewage Treatment Works (STW) for MWH Treatment – Elsym installed a site-wide distribution network and outgoing power, control and instrument cabling from four motor control centres along with all associated containment and associated works. The team was also responsible for installing the fibre optic network. This project required the installation of more than 100,000 metres of cable.

Loggerheads STW for Coffey, including the electrical installation of an innovative modular membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment plant – the project included introducing the site power network, all outgoing cabling from six motor control centres, site-wide containment and the fibre optic network.

Elsym Director Sam Fisher, who will continue to lead the business, said;

“We are proud of Elsym’s roots as a family business and how we have been able to develop the company, but we now feel that the time is right to join a group with a business strategy and values that match our own. Joining RSK Group will allow Elsym to continue to grow and thrive, benefiting business growth and greater opportunities for our colleagues.”

Commenting on Bates Weston’s role in the process, he said;

“It’s been a whole new world for us and I don’t think we could have been aided by a better team of people. Both professionally and personally, the CF team at Bates Weston have all been fantastic. I couldn’t recommend them enough.”

Chris Jones, Partner at BWCF, commented;

“Elsym already supports RSK in the water sector and there was compelling logic to becoming part of the group. The investment going into AMP8 will provide significant opportunities for the business as water companies upgrade their wastewater and sewage treatment infrastructure. The Elsym deal is the second transaction we have completed with RSK.”
