A new driving restriction zone has been introduced in the Castleward area of Derby, impacting access to Bates Weston offices.
As of 29th September 2025, cars are prohibited from accessing Canal Street between London Road and Carrington Street, near Castleward Spencer Academy during the times outlined below:
- Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 9am and 3pm to 3:45pm (Permit Holder Exemption)Â Â Â Â
- Pedestrian and cycle zone ONLY during these times
A new one-way system has also been implemented on the following roads:
- Carrington Street, from Trinity Street to Canal Street in an Easterly direction
- Canal Street, from London Road to Carrington Street in a Northerly direction
There is also a change to the existing one-way system for all vehicles:
- Carrington Street between Canal Street and Trinity Street in a Westerly direction will be revoked.
The changes outlined above will limit traffic at the junction of Carrington Street and Canal Street, preventing drivers from using the road as a through route at the start and end of the school day. This will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, whilst encouraging the use of more sustainable modes of transport.
The area will be monitored by camera enforcement to ensure adherence to the driving restriction zone, so we strongly advise visitors find alternative routes during the times outlined.
