Autumn Newsletter for Charities

Oct 30, 2019

In this Autumn edition of our newsletter for charities, we consider the way the conduct of Oxfam workers has rightly drawn attention to the governance of charities, focussing attention on their safeguarding responsibilities.
We remind you that the new code of fundraising practice is effective from 1 October and highlight the major changes.

We stress the need to fully disclose related third-party transactions as regulators may view failures to disclose these as a sign that a charity is failing to handle a conflict of interest appropriately.

There are also articles on the independent examination process, access to the guide from the National Cyber Security Centre on how to protect your charity, the NCVO tool kit supporting smaller charities in implementing good governance, the Charity Tax Commission proposals for tax reform, the impact of Making Tax Digital for VAT and a roundup of the latest government consultations.

If you need help with any of the issues raised in the newsletter or you would like to speak with us about our specialist audit service for charities, please do get in touch.
