Bates Weston is delighted to announce the promotion of Hannah Stevenson and Nathan Birks from qualified Senior Accountants to Assistant Relationship Managers.

Both Nathan and Hannah joined the Bates Weston team four years ago as Graduate Trainee Accountants. They have successfully completed our acclaimed training programme, achieving their ACA qualification last year.

Rachel Robertson, Training Manager at Bates Weston said of Hannah and Nathan:

“Hannah and Nathan were both keen and enthusiastic students. We gave them the time to learn, with dedicated support, and it is great to see them progressing in their careers.”

Hannah recalls her first days at Bates Weston. She explains that at first, she though Rachel had given her a “case study” to practice accounts preparation, but soon realised this was a real accounts preparation task. Closely supervised, she saw this task from start to review and got a real sense of achievement from completing “real work” right from the start of her training.

Our training scheme combines “on the job” training with off-site learning and fully paid study leave and it has been a successful combination for many years. 2024’s graduate recruitment programme has just opened to applications, and you can apply through the Bates Weston website.

Nathan met one of the Bates Weston Partners, Kay Brookes at his graduation ceremony. The firm sponsors the award for Best Student Performance on BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance at the University of Derby and we like to meet the winner each year. In 2019, that winner was Nathan.

He decided to join us and 4 years later, he like Hannah is now an ACA qualified accountant and an Assistant Relationship Manager at Bates Weston.

He says of his training:

“We were exposed to a wide variety of work and clients, with time to take on board what we were learning without being too rushed. Over time, as we progressed through our qualifications, we were given more responsibilities. Now as Assistant Relationship Managers, we work alongside the Relationship Managers, learning from their experiences and understanding what to expect day to day in the role going forward”.

Hannah adds:

“We are keen to develop in our roles and to begin to build our own client portfolios”.

Both Nathan and Hannah have a real sense of achievement at building their accountancy careers at Bates Weston and both agree that it is the people here that make the firm what it is.

Kay Brookes, Partner at Bates Weston adds:

“Nathan and Hannah excelled through their training and are an excellent example of how to successfully complete your training and progress your career with us. Many congratulations on your promotions, they are well deserved.”
